Alan Cooke established Town Estates in 1964, and the practice grew to three branches before being acquired by the Leeds Permanent Building Society in 1988 and then traded as Eddisons Town Estates. Following the merger of the Leeds Permanent with the Halifax Building Society in 1995, Alan Cooke and his team left to re-establish the completely independent business.
